One Year Later: Tel Aviv Gathers to Honor Nova Festival Victims

A year has passed since the tragic events of October 7, 2023, when 410 people lost their lives at the Supernova festival massacre. In Tel Aviv, bereaved families gathered at Hangar 11 in the city's port to honor the memory of their loved ones, in a ceremony organized by the Tribe of Nova Community Association.

The event was not just a time to mourn but also a moment of collective remembrance and support for the affected families. One of the attendees, Ofri Rahum, who lost her sister, her sister's fiancé, and her uncle at the festival, shared the bittersweet pain that continues to linger. "Time flies, I don’t believe it’s been a year. It’s like a dream I want to wake up from," Rahum said before the event. Her sister had been four months pregnant at the time.

The memorial featured a Yizkor prayer, speeches by the families, and performances by local musicians. There was also an art installation dedicated to the memory of the victims, providing a space for the community to reflect on the loss they experienced that day.

"It's as if they went on a trip, and we are waiting for them to come back," Rahum added, echoing the deep sense of disbelief and grief felt by the families.

The ceremony is one of many being held across Israel this week to mark the anniversary of the Hamas-led invasion of southern Israel, a day that changed countless lives forever.
