Verizon Restores Service After Major Outage; FCC Launches Investigation

In a recent update, Verizon announced that it has successfully resolved a significant network disruption that affected thousands of customers across the United States. The company confirmed that services have returned to "normal levels" as of Monday evening.

The outage prompted more than 100,000 reports to Downdetector, a website that monitors tech outages. The issue, which appeared to have started around 10 AM ET, was particularly widespread in major cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix, Omaha, and Washington D.C. By 8 PM ET, the number of reported outages had significantly decreased to approximately 2,500.

Verizon took to social media to inform customers of the resolution, advising anyone still experiencing difficulties to restart their devices. The company expressed its understanding of how essential reliable service is to its users and apologized for any inconvenience caused during the disruption.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced it will investigate the cause and scope of the outage. A Verizon spokesperson, Ilya Hemlin, stated that the engineering team worked diligently to address the issues impacting customer service.

While Verizon faced this disruption, rival companies T-Mobile and AT&T reported that their networks remained operational. However, some users may have encountered connectivity problems when attempting to reach Verizon customers.

This latest outage comes on the heels of Verizon's recent deal to lease, operate, and manage over 6,300 mobile towers in the U.S. for $3.3 billion with infrastructure firm Vertical Bridge.
