U.S. Organizes Evacuation of Citizens from Lebanon Amid Heightened Tensions
Beirut, Lebanon — In a significant development amid escalating military operations in the region, the U.S. government successfully evacuated approximately 100 American citizens and their noncitizen family members from Beirut on October 2. This operation was confirmed by Matthew Miller, a spokesman for the U.S. State Department.
As Israeli forces ramp up their actions against Hezbollah, the U.S. has been proactive in organizing flights to ensure the safety of its citizens. The chartered aircraft for the recent evacuation had a capacity of around 300 seats, indicating a substantial effort to facilitate the movement of individuals seeking to leave the volatile area.
Miller reported that the State Department has been coordinating evacuation flights over the past week, although he was unable to provide an exact number of citizens evacuated during this period. The department has reached out to U.S. citizens still in Lebanon, urging them to contact officials for assistance.
To date, approximately 7,000 individuals have reached out to the State Department, though not all have requested evacuation support.
