Tornadoes Strike St. Lucie County: Residents Share Their Harrowing Experiences
Residents of St. Lucie County, Florida, are grappling with the aftermath of a tornado outbreak that struck just ahead of Hurricane Milton’s landfall. The terrifying experience has left many in the community shaken, with stories of destruction and fear emerging from those who witnessed the chaos firsthand.
Susan Carlos, a long-time Florida resident, described the event as “the most frightening thing I’ve ever lived through.” Carlos, who lives in Sunnier Palms Park and Campground, noted that despite having lived in the state since 1989, she had never encountered such extensive tornado damage. “Never have I experienced the amount of tornadoes that came through this area,” she told CNN’s Paul Murphy and John General.
The National Weather Service reported at least nine tornadoes that hit St. Lucie County on Wednesday afternoon and evening, causing widespread havoc. Officials indicated that Sunnier Palms was among the most severely impacted locations, with significant structural damage reported throughout the area. Powerful winds knocked down trees, uprooted power lines, overturned vehicles, and left many homes in ruins.
Another resident, Keith Harry, shared his own shocking experience during the storm. He recounted witnessing transformers explode and feeling his motor home begin to tip dangerously. “Our motor home started to tip up on two wheels,” he recalled, expressing disbelief at how swiftly the tumult unfolded. “I couldn’t believe the damage,” Harry added.
As the community begins to assess the destruction and recover from the storm, residents are left to ponder the extraordinary nature of this event. For updates on the recovery efforts and ongoing developments, follow me on Twitter/X: @dark_web24.
