On the evening of October 10, 2024, Cocoa Beach, Florida, experienced a tornado classified as an EF1 by the National Weather Service (NWS). The storm, driven by the remnants of Hurricane Milton, brought winds that gusted between 85 to 95 mph, causing significant damage in the area.
According to preliminary assessments from the NWS in Melbourne, the tornado originated as a waterspout before making landfall near Royale Towers. It then traveled west-northwest along South Banana River Boulevard, eventually exiting into the Banana River near St. Croix Avenue. Reports indicate that the tornado caused additional damage to nearby homes. Fortunately, there is no evidence that the tornado impacted Merritt Island, suggesting it likely remained a waterspout after entering the Banana River.
Survey teams are actively assessing the damage across Florida, and further updates will be released as they gather more information on the tornado's impact.
