IDF to Investigate Drone Incursion as Hezbollah Claims Responsibility for Attack
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has announced it will investigate a significant security breach involving a drone launched by Hezbollah that entered Israeli airspace without triggering an alert. This incident occurred on Sunday evening, raising concerns about the effectiveness of Israel's defense systems.
In a statement made from a military base near Binyamina, which was targeted in the attack, IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari emphasized the importance of learning from the incident. "We will look into how a UAV entered without an alert at the base," he stated, underscoring the need for improvements in Israel’s defenses.
According to Hagari, the drone was launched from Lebanon at approximately 7 p.m. local time. Hezbollah confirmed it had simultaneously fired numerous rockets toward the Israeli cities of Nahariya and Acre, intending to engage Israel's air defense systems. The group claimed that their drones—some of which were deployed for the first time—successfully penetrated Israeli defense radars and reached a training camp of the elite Golani Brigade in Binyamina.
Hezbollah's assertion claimed that the drones exploded in the barracks where many Israeli soldiers were preparing for operations against Lebanon, resulting in significant casualties. The IDF reported that four soldiers lost their lives in the attack, with emergency services estimating that over 60 individuals sustained injuries.
In a defiant message, Hezbollah warned Israel that the Sunday attack was merely "the easy part of what awaits" if Israel continues its military actions against their people. The Iranian-backed militia reported conducting 38 strikes on Israeli military personnel, bases, and barracks in both Israel and southern Lebanon—marking the most extensive offensive since the escalation of the conflict.
