Hurricane Milton Causes Widespread Power Outages Across Florida

As Hurricane Milton makes its way across Florida, nearly 2.8 million homes and businesses are left without power, according to PowerOutage.us. The storm, which made landfall on Siesta Key Wednesday night, has significantly impacted the region.

Sarasota County, where the hurricane hit hardest, has reported the most extensive outages, with surrounding areas experiencing similar challenges. Hillsborough County is currently facing the highest number of outages, with approximately 510,000 residents in the dark. The situation is dire in nearby counties, including Sarasota, Manatee, and Hardee, where between 80% and 97% of energy customers are without electricity.

As the powerful winds of Hurricane Milton continue to advance toward Florida’s east coast Thursday morning, the number of outages is expected to rise further. Residents are urged to stay safe and remain updated on the situation.
