Casio Confirms Ransomware Attack, Sensitive Data Compromised

Casio, the renowned electronics manufacturer, has disclosed that it fell victim to a ransomware attack earlier this month, resulting in the unauthorized access of sensitive information pertaining to both customers and employees. Initially, on October 7, the company reported a “system disruption” but did not specify the nature of the issue. In a recent update, however, Casio revealed that the breach involved personal data of employees, contractors, business partners, and even interview candidates, as well as critical company documents like invoices and HR records.

While some customer information was indeed compromised, Casio reassured its users that no credit card details were involved in the breach. Furthermore, essential services such as Casio ID and ClassPad are reported to have remained secure. The attack was claimed by the ransomware group Underground, which took to its dark web leak site to announce its responsibility. This group is connected to the infamous Russian cybercriminal organization Storm-0978, also known as "RomCom," which is believed to have links to the Russian government.

The exact timeline of the breach remains uncertain, but reports indicate that the hackers may have maintained access to the company's systems for an extended duration, raising concerns over the potential monitoring of internal communications and wiretap systems. As the investigation unfolds, Casio is working diligently to secure its systems and mitigate the impact of this serious security incident.
