Baltimore City Council Votes to Ban Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers

Baltimore, MD – In a significant move towards environmental sustainability, the Baltimore City Council has officially voted to ban gas-powered leaf blowers within the city. The decision, which passed with a vote of 10-5, was spearheaded by Councilmember Ryan Dorsey, who introduced the bill.

This legislation is set to apply to all residents, private contractors, and city employees. According to Dorsey, gas-powered leaf blowers will no longer be permitted for use by city officials and contractors after December 15 of this year. For private residents, including landscaping professionals, the use of gas-powered leaf blowers will be restricted to a two-year transitional period, from October 15 to December 15 in both 2025 and 2026. After this period, the use of these machines will be entirely prohibited.

Dorsey emphasized that this legislation aligns with a growing national movement aimed at reducing pollution and improving public health. “Thank you to everybody who supported and advocated for this,” he stated, celebrating what he termed a "good day for the environment, health, and peace of mind."

As cities across the country look for ways to combat pollution, Baltimore’s decision reflects a commitment to fostering a cleaner and healthier urban environment. For more updates on this story and others, follow @dark_web24 on Twitter/X
